Our Commitment
Scam Llama is designed with privacy as a core principle. You should be able to check whether something is a scam without giving up your personal information.
Data We Collect
We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to our servers. Scam Llama has no backend, user accounts, or analytics services.
How Analysis Works
- Local Message Scanning: Pattern-based scanning of text you paste in happens entirely on your device. No data leaves your phone.
- AI Message Analysis (Optional): If you provide your own Anthropic Claude API key in Settings, the message text you check may be sent directly to Anthropic's API (api.anthropic.com) for enhanced analysis. Only the message text is sent — no personal identifiers, contact names, or device information. The app asks for your explicit consent before sending anything.
- Photo Verification: Photos you choose to check are first analyzed on-device. With your explicit consent, photos may also be sent to Reality Defender (api.prd.realitydefender.xyz) and Scam.ai (api.scam.ai) for deepfake detection. Only the photo file is sent — no metadata, file names, or personal information.
- Read-Out-Loud: Text-to-speech runs entirely on your device using Apple's built-in speech engine. Nothing is transmitted.
Data Stored on Your Device
- Saved Results: Past message and photo checks you choose to save are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData. This data never leaves your phone.
- API Keys: Your Anthropic key and any custom Reality Defender key are stored securely in the iOS Keychain on your device.
- Checklist Sessions: Your responses to the red-flag checklist are stored locally.
You can delete everything at any time from Settings → Delete All Data.
Third-Party Services
When you opt in, Scam Llama communicates directly with:
- Anthropic (Claude API) — For AI-powered text analysis. Governed by Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
- Reality Defender — For photo deepfake detection. Governed by Reality Defender's Privacy Policy.
- Scam.ai — For photo deepfake detection.
No data is shared with advertising networks, analytics providers, or data brokers.
No Tracking
Scam Llama contains no analytics SDKs, no tracking pixels, no cookies, and no advertising frameworks. We don't know who you are or how you use the app.
Children's Privacy
Scam Llama does not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page.
